Let Him Go, Kevin Costner

Image
So I put on Netflix and they have film recommendations in the top banner and I thought I’d give it a go.  Set in the 1960’s parents loose there boy and their daughter in law moves away with their grandchild. They set out to see him and notice they daughter in law and grandchild are trapped in an abusive relationship. As they try to put things in motion to rescue them so they get dragged into the world of abuse and the thriller grows from there.  I have to say, it’s actually quite a good little film. It does take a while to grow and develop but you do become invested in the grandparents and you want to see if they can rescue the daughter in-law and grandchild.  ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Have fun stay safe 👍

Walking up Gallions path.

Image
After going shopping for food as a result of a week in Poland, I put my boots on and headed out for a walk. It was around the estate to collect some WeWards before going up behind the golf course.  It’s interesting to compare the weather between the two countries and where they are with their seasons. England is coming to the end of its fruit blossom snd daffodils and is moving on to bluebells and latter flowering bulbs. In southern Poland it’s completely different, the weather is a lot colder day on day and while there might be the odd daffodil if it’s in continuous sunlight they are few and far between. The fruit trees are still in there winter state and there are no signs of any blossom appearing, they look a good three or four weeks away from forming any.  It was a nice walk and I’m coming to the end of my latest book, audible have a sake on at the moment so I’ve made the most of it and ordered 8 books and used my credit for another. Only 4 golf balls today but it w...

Certificate awarded in Principles Of Team Leading (RQF)

Image
Today I was awarded my certificate for my principles in team leading course. My first new qualification of the year just as I started my second course. It was great to work through and I’ve taken a lot away from it. My poor tutor had to decipher my at times poor English skills, but at least it wasn’t AI answering the questions as it would have better grammar!  Have fun stay safe 👍🏼

Deep Cover, Orlando Bloom, Nick Mohammed

Image
I was looking on Amazon prime video for things to download a watch on the plane, I choose Young Sherlock the new series and Deep Cover.  Deep Cover brings an inept improvisation group to the world of deep cover police work, I was a little unsure when I started watch but as I got deeper in it started to grow on me. Nick Mohammed from Ted Lasso fame plays his usual up tight repressed character, Orlando Bloom plays it straight but a little dense, and Bryce Dallas Howard is the glue that holds them together. Of course there are some fantastic actors bought in to support them Ian McShane and Sean Bean among them.  It’s a good comedy with some laugh out loud moments and it’s well put together. It’s a good one to put on if you have older children as there are drug themes in the plot that might not be suitable for a young audience.  I would say give it a try if it grabs you hey all good, if you can’t stand it then nothing lost. ⭐️⭐️ Have fun stay safe 👍🏼

Easter preparations smoking hams!

Image
Smoking hams  Next weekend it's easter and preparations are under way. I was an early start as preparations were made to start smoking the hams in preparation for the weekend. Getting out the smoker and lighting the fruit wood in order to get the nice flavour for the meat. It's going to be all day by the fire watching and keeping an eye out. Most houses in the village have pet dogs in there gardens so it's a good idea tostat on watch just on the off chance they should find an escape route and make tracks for some tasty freshly smoked hams.  Have fun stay safe 👍🏼

Dr Pepper Vanilla Float!

Image
I haven't had a float for around 15 years, if I remember rightly it was in Popins in Yewsley. If I remember rightly I had a Coca-Cola float with vanilla ice cream floated on top, it was very nice! Not so healthy though but nice.  It would seem that vanilla is going to be the flavour of the summer at least in Poland and after yesterdays Pepsi cream soda this is a little different. I have to say you don't get the thick ice cream hit as you would from a real float. But it does have a nice vanilla flavour that cuts through the fruity Dr Pepper. Of course this drink is full of sugar and that comes through in the taste there is none of the aftertaste that comes with sweetener. Now as a novel summer drink it's nice but would it be a go to on a sunny afternoon? I'm not so sure I think it's more of a one off or if you feel like one not a I'll fill the fridge with them it's very sweet and that could become overpowering.  ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Have fun stay safe 👍

Pepsi Cream Soda flavour

Image
When I was a kid during the late 80’s and early 90’s Saturday mornings where spent shopping in town, back then Slough town centre was pretty good unlike today. Saturday evening’s we used to drive to to Burnham fish and chips and sometimes we’d get a bottle of cream soda too. We’d then settle down for the evening movie on BBC 1 and feast, cream soda back then was pure sugar with a good dose of vanilla.  So when I saw Pepsi cream soda in Zabka at the end of the village I had to give it a go. Now to me Pepsi sugar free drinks leave a little to be desired their sweetener as a kind of salty or strange aftertaste which I couldn’t get along with since I was a child so my hopes weren’t high. I have to say I was surprised as this firstly really took me back to those childhood days as the taste of vanilla hit but that Pepsi sugar free taste wasn’t as strong, it’s still there but not as bad. Now I have to say it’s a wet and cold day as I write, but on a nice warm afternoon this would b...

New course Lean Organisational Management Techniques !

Image
I’ve been enrolled on my next course, lean organisational management techniques. I’m going to wait until I’m back in the UK before I really get into it . My first deadline is the 9th April so I should be ok.  I’m looking forward to the new challenge and learning some new skills and techniques and continuing my journey of self improvement.  Have fun stay safe 👍🏼

Wroclaw Centennial Hall and city centre !

Image
It’s a trip to Wroclaw this week the first two days were spent shopping, first in the out of town shopping centre then in the city itself. We did have lunch in Wroclaw Hard Rock Café which was nice. I went for the steak fillet minion with cheesey chips. I have to say it was good value and very nice too.  Today it was a trip to centennial hall which is just outside the city centre. It’s a great concert venue and in the summer there are fountains that display to music and there are Japanese gardens to visit as well as a pergola with flowers too. The centennial hall is a big space and it’s worth taking a look at if you visit the city.  It’s been a nice day and it was good to get out.  Have fun stay safe 👍🏼

Rasputin And The Downfall Of The Romanovs, Sir Antony Beevor

Image
I feel it’s important to start with an apology for omitting the Sir from Antony Beevor as he is a knight of the realm. Please accept my sincere apology and if there should be a subsequent court case I look forward to the new readers.  Of course Antony Beevor is brilliant and a true historian his writing skills put me to shame. This is his latest book and it’s a fascinating subject to explore. The Russian empire once stretched from the Constantinople in the  west to all of Korea in the east, the Romanov density seemed strong and Russia was a power house. At the end of the 19th century things started to change, loosing some of its western territory to other empires and a war with Japan that resulted in more territories lost the power base of the Romanovs is shaken. Their young son and heir has the English disease Haemophilia and there’s one person who has the magic touch to end a crisis in the young prince. Rasputin a poor man from Siberia is seen a a religious icon who c...

Afternoon walk

Image
After gym it was home for lunch a little tv and then out for a walk. I collected the WeWards from around the estate then headed up Gallions path. It was seven miles in total and only 2 golf balls and only cheap ones.  I’m listening to a new book it’s good and I’m getting near the end so look out for that review soon. Sadly no excitement on today’s walk but I think I saw King Charles helicopter coming in to land at Windsor while I was driving to the gym, It was definitely landing at Windsor castle.  Have fun stay safe 👍🏼

Gym day chest !

Image
It was a mid morning visit to the gym, I started off with the rowing machine, the one I used was broken and had little resistance but I found it more of a hindrance than a help. It was 3739 meters in 30 mins and 370 calories.  It was on to a chest weight session and starting with incline press and 20kg up to 30kg I need to up that next time. The cables were free in the middle of the gym so I got on them for flys, starting low with 7.5kg a side upping it to 10kg it felt good.  On to machine presses next narrow to start and 20kg up to 36kg. Then on to wide press starting with 26kg down to 19kg and failure. I had some time do I did some tri presses before calling it a day 50kg up to 65kg  It was a nice season and felt good.  Have fun stay safe 👍🏼

Afternoon walk Gallions Path.

Image
With clear skies and warm weather I decided to get out for a walk this afternoon. I set off down the Uxbridge road and a lot of police cars ripped past me at high speed, a few hundred metres down the road they were all parked up with lights flashing. I did intend to casually walk past and have a nose but when the huge police dog was taken out I thought better of it !  I cut past The Pinewood hotel and headed up Gallions path behind the golf course. It was still a bit muddy but not that bad, I made it up to the top and back down again, only two golf balls today which was a tad disappointing. When I was on my way back an RAF C-17 Globemaster flew over with its landing gear down probably head towards Northolt Airfield. It was great to get out and feel the warmth of the sun and get some fresh air.  Have fun stay safe 👍🏼

Principles Of Team Leading course update !

Image
I think it was around six weeks ago that I set out to complete this course and I have to say there’s a lot of information and techniques to learn from the content. I’ve worked through it diligently, every unit an each question was studied for and answered. Yes I made some mistakes along the way and there were some frantic re-writes before they were accepted. Some how my tutor was able to decipher my poor grammar and typos along the way.  I’am please to say that I’ve passed the course subject to moderation and now I’m waiting for my certificate to be issued.  Have fun stay safe 👍🏼

Sonny Boy, Al Pacino

Image
Al Pacino grew up in a poor neighbourhood in New York and that city would shape him and mould him into the man and actor he would become.  Starting off with his childhood experiences and those of his friends there are some harsh lessons and events. Of course it outlines how he develops in acting from early days in theatre to breaking through into films and “The Godfather” which would be the breakout role. There are small behind the scenes snippets but nothing that stands out.  Of course there are relationships and friendships but if I’m honest there’s no drama or cross words, Al always treats people with respect and kindness and that’s a constant theme throughout the book.  This was a top selling book of 2024 and it’s worth looking at, it’s a nice gentle read that can be dipped in and out of, it’s perfect for a holiday. ⭐️⭐️⭐️  Have fun stay safe 👍

Gallions path

Image
As it was gym yesterday it was out for a walk today and after picking up today’s WeWards it was up Gallions path to hunt for some golf balls. Only 3 today which was a bit lame but I guess I need to wait for the weather to pick up.  I was able to finish my latest audio book which was an achievement so more on that latter. The weather was a bit chilly but once I was moving it wasn’t so bad.  Have fun stay safe 👍🏼

Leg day !

Image
It’s back to the gym today and it’s leg day again, starting off with the cross trainer on intervals level 13 I managed to get more distance 2.4km and 450 calories.  It was on to hack squats and I just kept it the same with 57kg up to 67kg.  Leg press next and starting with 50kg going up to 70kg. Leg extensions next and starting with 50kg going up to 65kg. Leg curls next and as always a mirror of extensions.  I called it a day and headed home.  Have fun stay safe 👍🏼

Paradise, Disney+, HULU

Image
So while looking through Disney+ Paradise popped up in the recommended section. Remembering Sterling K. Browns performance in ‘This Is Us’ from a few years ago we thought we’d give it a go.  Now I have to be honest it’s a bit of a slow burner and doesn’t really get going until deep into the series run, but it’s a good thriller with lots of blind ally’s to be led up and back down again.  It’s a really well constructed thriller series, with information being drip fed to us the audience as the plot develops, it’s an interesting way to explore a story line.  It worth a look but will require patience to watch but it’s rewarding latter when you’re up to speed.  ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Have funstsy safe 👍

Back to the gym triceps

Image
After having a rest yesterday it was back to the gym today, I’ll be honest I was in two minds as I drove there from work but once I was in the car park I committed to it.  It was cross trainer to start in intervals level 15, after 30 mins it was 353 calories and 1.53km it felt good and I was glad I’d come to the gym. It was on to triceps a as the cable machine was free that’s where I started. The rope was already on so that’s where I started.  Rope pull downs to start with 20kg going up to 28.5kg. Overhead pulls next with 23kg up to 32kg  Bar pull downs next and starting at 20kg going up to 28kg. On to the triceps machine next and starting with 50kg going up to 57kg. Some weight bars to finish 17.5kg and 20kg until failure. It was a really good session and I feel better for going .  Have fun stay safe 👍🏼

Walking day

Image
It’s a walking day today so I got home and changed before heading out. I walked around the estate and collected my missing WeWards before heading up Gallions path. I finished listening to Damien Lewis escapes three, if you like one and two the three is pretty much the same., I think the series is up to six now !  It was 5 golf balls today no premium ones though, the weather was good and the mud isn’t as bad as it was a few weeks ago. It’s always nice to get some fresh air and I’ve started a new book on Audible so look out for that review.  Have fun stay safe 👍🏼

Gym biceps 💪

Image
It’s a return to the gym today and it was biceps with rowing to start. It was 3679 metres on the rowing machine not much but it got the blood flowing.  On to curls on the machine starting low with 20kg going up to 35kg.  It was preacher next and starting with 32kg going up to 37kg. Cable curls and starting low on 22kg then up to 27.5kg. Preacher on the machine and 15kg to 25kg.  Bar curls next and starting low with 17.5kg then 20kg to finish and failure.  It was a good session and I got through a lot, not the highest weight but I’m working on it.  Have fun stay safe 👍🏼

S.A.S Great Escapes Two, Damien Lewis

Image
I was ten years old when the first gulf war happened, like most ten year olds the fast jets, tanks and missiles were fascinating and I’d watch the news reports and scan the pictures in the newspapers an learn all I could about them.  On the back of that conflict there came a new type of book to the fore, “Bravo Two Zero” by Andy McNab and “The One That Got Away” by Chris Ryan launched the S.A.S book as a way to be a best selling author and in the 35 years since that conflict there have been lots of them. Some of the stories are funny and entertaining while others are sad a tell of former soldiers who struggled to cope when their time had past.  Damien Lewis is the best author to cover British special forces operations and goes to great lengths to research his books and with fantastic writing skills he takes you to the heart of operations and escapes. This is obviously the second book in a successful of books and the first escape is a modern one inspired by the first boo...

Memorial garden walk

Image
It’s my second rest day and it was a slightly shorter walk today, as it’s spring we decided to walk round to the memorial gardens and photograph some of the flowers. It’s early spring so there was only a small selection to shoot. It was nice to get out with the slr camera and get some real boca with the pictures.  In total it was 6.5 miles and some nice photos, I was a bit disappointed that stoke poges golf course club house is under renovation I had a great shot planned but there’ll be another time.  Have fun stay safe 👍🏼

Rest day walk !

Image
After resting yesterday, today it was out for a walk. From Slough to Windsor and the long walk the in to McDonalds for a Friends meal and a Joey figure. Only Monica and Rachel to go !  I popped to Sainsbury’s to get some treats for the evening and then relaxed on the sofa. It’s been a nice day.  Have fun stay safe 👍🏼

Final assessment submitted.

Image
I’ve submitted my final assessment for my principles of team leading course, it should be marked by the end of next week. I’ve taken the liberty of filling in the end of course survey so hopefully it’s a pass and wait for the certification to complete!  Have fun stay safe 👍🏼

Leg day !

Image
It’s gym day and legs again, I started off with the cross trainer and intervals on level 14. 380 calories and 1.58km latter it was on legs.  Hack squats to start it’s just a routine leg day so 57kg to start then up to 67kg. Leg press next and starting with 50kg upping it to 70kg  Leg extensions starting with 50kg going up to 57kg  Leg curls mirroring the extensions. Not much today just hitting the numbers. Have fun stay safe 👍🏼

Gym day, shoulders.

Image
After a week away it's a return to the gym and I started off with rowing. It was a bit of a struggle but I managed 3677meter in 30mins.  On to shoulders it was lateral raises first 20kg up to 26kg. Shoulder presses next 20kg up to 35kg Then it was upright tows and presses only with 17.5kg and 20kg berbells.  Some plate raises to finish with a 10kg plate.  Not the hardest work out but it was ok. I'm going to make it more regular. Have fun stay safe 👍

Bandit Country, Andrew Turpin. A Joe Johnson thriller !

Image
This one was recommended to me from Audible and I have to say most of the time they come up with some good books, so I have it a go !  Now I have to say I’ve listened to a few books that have outlined some of the political issues that are associated with “The Troubles” and maybe a modern Northern Ireland is a different environment I couldn’t say but some things I think still hold dear. Could unknown person walk into a Unionist pub and ask questions about a local and be safe or not get at least a little warning !  But if you take it with a pinch of salt it’s a good detective thriller with a good story, there are some holes in the plot but I can forgive it that. If you’re looking for a detective series that’s not to complex and entertaining then give it a go.  ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Have fun stay safe!

Second rest day walk.

Image
Sunday was out in Windsor watching the Football in the pub on the corner. We also failed to escape from an escape room too.  So to make amends it’s was a long walk to sweat it out. It was a quick lap around the estate to pick up today’s WeWards and then it was up Gallions path to black park. I managed to collect 12 golf balls on the way and finish a book on Audible.  It was around Blackpark and then home, I didn’t find any balls on the way back even though the weather was good. It was 11 miles in all and 25000 steps. It was great to get out in the sunshine and get some fresh air.  Have fun stay safe 👍🏼
