S.A.S Great Escapes Two, Damien Lewis
I was ten years old when the first gulf war happened, like most ten year olds the fast jets, tanks and missiles were fascinating and I’d watch the news reports and scan the pictures in the newspapers an learn all I could about them.
On the back of that conflict there came a new type of book to the fore, “Bravo Two Zero” by Andy McNab and “The One That Got Away” by Chris Ryan launched the S.A.S book as a way to be a best selling author and in the 35 years since that conflict there have been lots of them. Some of the stories are funny and entertaining while others are sad a tell of former soldiers who struggled to cope when their time had past.
Damien Lewis is the best author to cover British special forces operations and goes to great lengths to research his books and with fantastic writing skills he takes you to the heart of operations and escapes. This is obviously the second book in a successful of books and the first escape is a modern one inspired by the first book and even using it as a tool to escape. For those tales of daring that were carried out by brilliant and brave men who were heroes for their toughness and determination and I wish I had a tenth of their strength.
It’s a series of books that’s worth investing in the stories contained within are brilliantly written, and even if you have heard about them before they’re worth reading again. Remember all of the brave men who fought for our freedoms on both sides and may they be remembered for their service and sacrifice.
