In the early 1970’s the Sultanate of Oman was under threat from communist insurgents and the sultan looked to the U.K for help. With a major conflict in south east Asia also happening the U.K and Oman were keen to keep the conflict out of the media and so a small detachment of S.A.S soldiers were sent as a training team. Soldier’I’ covers this conflict and the battle of Mirbat which proved to be the major turning point. The book also covers the U.K’s response to the rise in terrorism and the response to that in training counter terrorist teams within the S.A.S culminating in the Iranian embassy siege in Kensington London in 1980.
