S.I.A Door supervisor course Day 1 morning

That New Year’s resolution to learn new skills has come around and it’s time for my S.I.A door supervisor course day one.

I get to the venue and I’m early so a good start it’s a hotel just outside of Heathrow. At 8 am we go into a small conference room and there’s a brief introduction to the course and then it’s onto the first section. Checking documentation and making sure everyone can apply for a license after the course. It takes a while because there are 12 of us on the course I’m up first and it’s all good just a matter of waiting for everyone else.

Once is all completed and guidance has been given out where needed it’s on to the first aid section of the course.

First it’s the recovery position and after a demonstration we all have to show that we can confidently put someone into the recovery position and we understand DRABC.

Danger

Response

Airway

Breathing

Circulation.

It’s a nervous start but we all get through it and there’s some silliness that breaks the ice.

It’s ANNE the plastic resuscitation doll next and we all have to demonstrate that we can do the 30 compressions to the two breaths, we don’t have to do the breaths post covid. We all demonstrate this and it’s a short break.

It’s back in the class room and on to choking a prearranged person wears a rig that has a padded back and a rubber balloon device on the front that we can demonstrate the on. I get the foam analog out first go but some struggle but we get there in the end.

We have to demonstrate either applying a bandage or a sling and we demonstrate a sling it’s just putting a knot on a badge.

Shock to finish off and a demonstration on how to deal with it and the best practices.

There’s an exam on first aid on the QualHub app that keeps progress of our exams and progress through the course. It’s only 12 questions I race through and get one wrong so a score of 92% the pass mark is 70% and it’s a break for lunch !

Have fun stay safe ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ
