The Making Of The Modern Middle East A Person History, Jeremy Bowen

Arguably since the Second World War the Middle East has been a constant flash point from the birth of Isreal in 1948  right up to today there’s been constant conflict and political instability.

Jeremy Bowen was the chief Middle East correspondent for the BBC from the late 80’s. Living in Israel when getting a bus could mean losing your life. The end of the Iran Iraq war, the first Gulf war and through the start and ultimately aborted peace process between Palestine and Israel. Of course Jeremy has covered the Arab spring and the decline of Syria. That seems like a lot! I’ve missed more out I’m sure ! Jeremy takes you back to all those moments that shook the world and tells you what it was like to be there. When the Israeli leader is assassinated and he breaks the death to the world or what it was like to be a young reporter and reporting that NATO had made a mistake and killed hundreds of civilians in an Iraqi bomb shelter and receiving the backlash from it. It’s a fascinating book and it delves into some of the politics of the Middle East. Published in September 2023 it was before the October 6 attacks that changed the region forever.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

A must read for anyone with an interest in middle east politics
