Stay Close, Harlen Coben, James Nesbitt, Cush Jumbo

So after watching one Harlen Coben series Netflix helpfully recommended another!  Not only that but with a bit of digging I've discovered that this is a new year tradition for Netflix to release the next Story on New Years Eve.

It's another James Nesbitt vehicle but again there's a great cast around him. Having only watched two series I'm taking a punt that the layered story line is a theme for the author and that he has a clever or twisted mind to think up these story arcs.

This times it's a person who goes missing and you're tasked with trying to work out what happened and who cause it, you'll have some allys in the series who have the same task. Lots of good relationships in this series. Eddie Izzard is a fabulous actor (Amongst a long list of other talents) and he's no different in this, it's like finding the best chocolate in the box and I longed for him to come back on screen. Cush Jumbo is the main character and your main guide as events unfold, it's a great performance for a very complicated role. There are a lot of relationships for this character and they have nuanced dynamics that developed as the series moves and it would have taken a great deal to deliver to this level.

Poppy Gilbert and Hyoie O’Grady also jump off the screen as the sinister Barbie and Ken the malice and unsettling presence is like adding salt and pepper to food, it lifts the production off the screen and pulls you in.

Critical eye, there are of course some holes to pick in the plot, if there's string of missing persons linked to a venue, the venue will probably get shut down ultimately. You're a former dancer in a popular club and no one ever spotted you with you new partner and used your old stage name for 20 years thats thin! There's a bunker in the middle of the woods and the Police didn't notice it for 20 years even when looking for a lot of missing persons in the immediate area. There are others but hey.

It's a good story and there are twists and turns with misdirections and blind allys to fall into as you watch. It's good and if you haven't seen it check it out. Don't overlap this with Run Away otherwise you'll risk twisting the two together.

Have fun stay safe πŸ‘
