London trip, Turner and Constable, Battersea Power Station
There's an exhibition oon at the Tate gallery, Turner and Constanle rivals showing work that hasn't been seen together for 150 years, if you include sketches then you can move that until they were first painted.
It was a short walk to Millbank and the Tate gallery, we were early so had a look around the main halls if you have a free day it's worth visiting as the art is amazing. If you go then keep your ears open there’s always someone who tries to make themselves sound like experts, listen closely and you can soon pick holes in their expertise and discover that they are mostly ignorant and self absorbed.
JMW Turner and John Constable were the most renowned artists of their era. Both members of the royal academy of art, Turner becoming a member in his teens. Constable became established latter in life and they soon became rivals in exhibitions held by the academy. Turner was arguably the more successful of the two artists producing over 800 artworks in his lifetime. Constable struggled to become established in England and exhibited in Paris often where his work was appreciated more. They became rivals latter in life and famously they were exhibited next to each other in 1836 Constable being the only artist who could be exhibited next to the genius Turner.
We got the train to Tottenham Court road and then the Northern line down to Battersea Power Station for a look around the shopping centre. It's a nice shopping centre it has to be said and I did spot a nice hat but the £280 price put me off.
We walked down the south bank past the National Covid Memorial, there's a heart for all the victims of Covid 19 and it's a very long memorial let me tell you. If a member of your family passed away from covid you can write their name in a heart. We walked to Pret near the London eye for a mocha and a chocolate cake then headed back to the Tate. ![]() |

I would highly recommend a visit to the exhibition as its only open for a few months and it's incredibly busy you should look for tickets now, they are £24 each but remember the main gallerys of the Tate are free so you can make a day of it. If you have time you can walk down the south bank to the Tate modern an do two gallerys in a day (with an early start).
To finish off the day we got the tube from Vuxhall to Lichester Square for a Burger King. We did intend to get the tube from Battersea but the Northern line had major disruption. A short walk to Tottenham Court Elizabeth line station and home.
It's been really nice day it's good to get out and experience some culture as well as London pollution.
Have fun and stay safe 👍
