Apple are the producers and I think they took a team of writers locked them in a room with all the iconic race films and said take the best out of those and make a F1 film for the twenty first century, which that have done.
There are aspects of Days of Thunder, Le Mans, Grand Prix and probably a few more that I’m not aware of and I have to say once you get over the fact that the opportunity to product place and just advertise straight to you the cinema goer and begin to take notice of the film it’s actually pretty good.
Ok if you have knowledge of formula one then there are some major plot holes that might make it difficult to watch. Blatantly cheating, absent formula one medicals and a whole range of other issues but if you put those aside the film is fun and enjoyable.
The director gives you a sense of what it would be like inside a formula one car with fast dynamic shots and quick cuts it brings the racing to life. Brad Pitt and Javier Bardem are such good actors that it’s a joy to watch, Damson Idris is good as the rookie driver, I can see him becoming a big talent. It’s hard to play opposite those two icons of cinema and he puts in a good show.
I would recommend going to see this on the big screen to truly get the visual impact of the driving scenes, it’s well worth a watch and you can see where the money has been spent making this film.
