Bristol Day two, Filton Aerospace museum, Concorde, Rolls Royce, Bristol Sydney

Concorde BOAF nose
Picture this as an idea, I want to collect £10 from every person in the UK and with that money I’m going to construct a super sonic airliner to fly the richest 1% of the country to foreign destinations mainly Barbados and New York. I’m sure I’ll get short shrift and you’ll laugh me out of town. But essentially that’s what happened the plane that was going to make the world smaller was only bought by the two national carriers and most of them for a nominal fee the tax payer paying the most. Concorde is celebrated as a success in engineering terms but as a commercial product it was a complete failure.

The weather in Bristol is wet, extremely wet so it’s looking at indoor pursuits and the Bristol aerospace museum at filton comes high on that list. The birth place of the British made Concordes and the site were were the second Concorde and the first British one took off from. Bristol has a rich aviation history during the first and second world wars Bristol aircraft manufactured many successful designs. Post World War Two Bristol aircraft would become part of British Aircraft Corporation who would manufacture lots of key British aviation infrastructure. The museum is great and well worth a visit if you’re in the area. Make sure you visit the restoration shed and get shown around it’s with a former employee of either B.A.C, Rolls Royce or Bristol Sydney and you’ll get a unique perspective from someone who worked on the aircraft and engines.

Bristol dock cranes

It was a drive back to the city centre for lunch and of course being half term everywhere was busy but we managed to get into Pizza express. It was a walk around the city for the afternoon it was still teaming with rain, the plan was to head towards the docks and get some pictures of the old cranes on the dock side. When we got to the cranes we found the Bristol Museum M Shed about life in Bristol so we went in for some rest bite from the rain. If you have children it’s we’ll worth a visit as it talks about many social and economic issues like suffrage, unionism and modern protests too.

It was a nice relaxed walk to the city centre the rain eased off and hopefully it’s clear tomorrow. It was a nice day with lots to see and photograph.

Have fun stay safe šŸ‘šŸ¼
