Cracker, Robbie Coltrane ITVX

Jimmy McGovern is a Liverpudlian writer who cut his teeth on the tv soap Brookside. The soap tackled many social issues of the day and is famous for the first lesbian kiss on British tv before the watershed*(21:30). Brookside was coming to the end of its run in the early nineties and was falling behind its contemporary’s in the ratings and was ultimately axed.

Jimmy McGovern’s next project was Cracker for ITV, set in Manchester Dr Edward (Fitz)Fitzgerald is a criminal psychologist, when the police have no motive and no clue they turn to him to decode the crime. Fitz has a talent for unraveling murders and when he uncovers the suspect he leads the interviews hence Cracker !

Robbie Coltrane who had come from a comedy background delivers a great performance as Fitz the psychologist. As his life falls apart the hard drinking, smoking and chronic gambler wrestles with difficult cases trying to make sense of the irrational and deranged. He uses up friends, family and colleagues to fuel his addictions. It’s a compelling watch and won back to back awards.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Have fun stay safe πŸ‘πŸΌ

Cracker is available on ITVX in the UK

*The watershed is regulated time on mainstream British TV, before 21:00 tv content can not contain any adult content and very limited swearing. Often films are edited or dubbed by the channels to make them pre watershed friendly
