Homebase and the demise
I only remember Homebase or Sainsburys Homebase as it was when it tripled in size after its take over of the Texas DIY chain. I guess I look back with rose tinted glasses and nostalgia but it seemed new and fresh when it came to my town. I remember buying some small house plants. ( I was a strange teenager )
It must have been about ten years latter I was moving into my first house and I bought a 24v power drill from Homebase it was an own brand equivalent and was (I thought) good value, I also bought a swivel reclining chair with stool but I had to go to the High Wycombe store to pick it up. Move on to 18 months latter and the drill was on its last legs after only a few uses and the chair had collapsed through the swivel mount onto the carpet. Oh the silly things we buy in haste !

Slowly the stores started disappearing as they became less profitable and internet shopping became more popular with next day delivery, there’s no point in doing battle in an out of town car park when it can be with you inside of 24 hours from the comfort of your sofa. Today the stores are mostly empty just off loading boxes of stock at knock down prices a far shout from the mid nineties when it was fresh and new to town.
Have fun stay safe ππΌ
