The most dangerous junction in Buckinghamshire?

When the weather is bad and I don’t want to cycle or during the summer when I’ve been to the gym but want to get out and get some fresh air I like to walk up to black park. I walk on the footpath by the side of the Uxbridge road.

It’s when I get to the point in this photo Uxbridge Road looking up to Black park I normally see it there will be two cars both heavily damaged and perhaps an ambulance or police car and a crowd of people standing around. Too often I get to see the victims as I walk past and onto the forest paths. If I don’t seen the people and vehicles I’ll see the aftermath there will be a new piece of debris a piece of car bumper or the broken lenses from lights.

Sometimes it can change daily there will be a new piece of broken car there, I’m not sure all the accidents get reported to the authorities but some of them must be. A few years ago the council changed the lay out of the junction to make it easier to do a U turn with a dedicated lane for this. Has it helped I can really see a down turn in accidents it appears to be exactly the same !

I’m not and expert in civic planning or the design of roads but I can see when someone’s distressed and upset because their car has been destroyed and their loved ones taken to hospital. If my article can save one person from being hurt or make a change in a positive way then that’s all I can hope for.

If I had to explain why the junction is so dangerous I would put it down to a number of factors. The first would be the speed of the road I know that it’s been lowered to 50 mph from a potential 70 mph but it’s still fast. Next the junction it’s self, it’s not straight on it has an angle to it, when you add that to the fact it’s on the blind side of the car ie the traffic is approaching on the passenger side it makes it more difficult.

Modern cars have thick A pillars to meet European NCAP crash standards this means there is a big blind spot attempting a turn like this and if the position of the vehicle is just in the wrong place it would be very easy to not see the car baring down on you at speed.

Ok my rant is over and before you ask no even though I’ve driven past it many times I’ve never been involved in an accident there !

Have fun stay safe ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ
