Day Of The Rangers, The Battle Of Mogadishu. Leigh Neville
This book revisits the infamous battle of Mogadishu 1993. After the end of the Cold War the U.S saw itself as the world’s police force. Somalia had been under the thumb of a cruel dictatorship since the late 60’s after a failed war with its neighbour Ethiopia the regime became increasingly more violent and unstable.
The U.S wasn’t going to stand by and let this continue and famously sent special forces in during late 1993. The were met by network tv cameras as they emerged from the Indian Ocean covered in camo cream.
The rangers and delta force were charged with taking out the local war lords and used the same tactic over and over which led to the loss of a black hawk helicopter and the resulting battle. This book out lines the build up and the mission with the resulting aftermath.
An important book that remembers those events in autumn 1993 and the brave men that laid down their lives in a desperate situation.
